DXpedition report: Using Mastrant ropes
For the 3W6C DXpedition in April 2010 we used 2mm and 3mm line from Mastrant as antenna guy lines. Both types are very easy to handle. In terms of strength and stability, the 2mm line was sufficient for most of the masts and antennas. The only drawback was that they are somewhat too thin and the 3mm line is easier to work with. When knots appeared, these were relatively easy to undo because the line did not knot up if there was any tension. On the other hand, if we intentionally made a knot, it would stay there reliably but was able to be loosened later on.
We agree with your recommendation to preferably use only 3mm line.
We used the remaining line at the end of the DXpedition to securely pack our equipment and shipping cartons. In this case, the 2mm line was more suitable. And for many other purposes the line came in quite useful. In such a situation you must often improvise quite a lot and you don’t always have the best suited line on hand. Mastrant line can be applied almost universally.
Once again, many thanks for the generous discount.
